Even if you are madly in love with city life, sometimes everyone needs the sight of green landscapes and the smell of nature. Alt-Lübars is an enchanting, well-preserved old village on the border of Berlin. It is a beautiful starting point for longer hikes.

The village was founded in 1230 and incorporated into the city of Berlin in 1920. A lot of the old charm is still palpable today. While walking over cobbled streets, you can admire the old and well preserved small houses, the church, which was founded in 1790, and an old restaurant that has been around for over 100 years. The people in Alt-Lübars were often farmers and horse breeders and still are. There are quite a few stables, where you can do some horseback riding.

After exploring the old village it is time to start your trail. You can exit the village at two sides and start your walk in the countryside. Numerous marked trails will guide you. But make sure to follow them, because once you lose sight of the houses, getting lost is quite easy. You can go for a longer or shorter hike. Especially beautiful are the trails through the horse paddocks and over a wooden bridge that leads over wetland. The hiking trails then go through green meadows along groups of trees. If you go for the long walk you will also come to the part where the Berlin wall once stood. That makes you realize how huge the walled off area was.

The fresh air and lush nature will open your heart. Make sure to bring something to drink and eat with you, for there is no place to buy anything along the way. The beautiful landscape is enchanting all year round. The light green buds in spring, the lush green fields in summer, the vivid colors in fall and the snowy fields in winter. They all have their own appeal. Only when it rains is a hike not recommendable, for the trails get extremely muddy and the wet coldness is chilling.

If you are up for a little culinary stop, you can have something to eat and drink at the Alter Dorfkrug. In summer you can sit outside in the nice beer garden with lots of old trees. The food is traditional German cuisine and can be very good, depending on the chef working that day.
