Volkspark Friedrichshain is a very lovely park and the oldest one in Berlin. It was built in 1846 und serves since then as a green oasis in the middle of the ever expanding city. On warm summer days lots of people come here to enjoy the sunshine. There are several playgrounds as well as huge lawns to lie on and two ponds. A 78 meter high mound of rubble rises in one corner of the park, reminding the visitors of the past war.
The park also contains a beautiful fountain with statues of fairy tale characters as well as a nice beer garden (Schönbrunn) and an open air cinema. During the summer season great movies are screened there.
The park is a nice place to just relax or go for a walk.
