The Island of Youth is a very nice but still not too well known spot in Berlin, where you can spend some wonderful sun filled hours. The island is located across from Treptower Park and can be accessed by crossing an iron bridge. It is with its 160 hectares not big but very appealing. Especially the nice beer garden with its relaxed atmosphere and good food is something you should try out.

The beer garden is called island garden and offers many seating options directly on the waterfront with a wonderful view of Treptower Park. Here you can watch boats float by while relaxing and enjoying either the sunshine or the cooling shade.  Maybe this will inspire you to make a little boat trip yourself. The beer garden has a big lawn and many trees and little wooden huts where you can get food and drinks. Even during the weekends this place is normally not overcrowded which is rare for Berlin. The prices are moderate and the quality of the food is very good. Apart from burgers, salads, cakes and ice cream you can get sausages, tarte flambée and other tasty dishes.

If you want to, you can rent a canoe or pedal boat here. One hour costs 11 €. If you prefer to go in a group. you can join a guided excursion tour. Renting a boat and cruising on the water is a wonderful experience.

If it is warm enough and the weather permits it, the beer garden is open from morning until evening.
